New Zealand

Helloooo,

I am in Christchurch, New Zealand! Yeah!! When we were flying into the airport you could see all the hills and mountains, and it looks so cool! The land was EXACTLY like England, all patchwork fields, it was as if we were landing in Kent, but with bigger hills. Although, it is super sunny here, and there is a nice breeze, so its perfect weather really! Christchurch is pretty weird, its like a bit of a rubbish town, its got everything you need, but just seems all old. But i am very much looking forward to getting out into the country and seeing all the mountains and lakes and glaciers and hills and Kiwi birdies. So tomorrow will be exciting! Today it is Sunday, and nothing is open, which sucks a bit, i found an old cafe and ate this weird savoury muffin thing, because i haven't eaten since yesterday lunch. Then i walked round the corner and found some much better looking restaurants and cafes. Damn. I should have bothered to look a bit harder. Christchurch is supposedly the 2nd biggest city in New Zealand, and it doesn't seem much bigger than Pembury. But maybe i just haven't found the rest of it yet.

I wasn't allowed to enter NZ without buying a return ticket (i was just going to book it while i was here) So i ended up having to buy one in the airport, so i will be going back up to Airlie on the 3rd of April. wooo.

I left some awesome girls in Sydney, Becca, Harriet and Jacky who i hung out with the whole time i was there, so i will miss them. Plus i met up with Amy and Emma who sailed with me on my first week, they both live in Sydney, and we spent the whole of yesterday drinking in the sun at the Opera Bar, underneath the opera house. Which was brilliant.

I have no idea what to do tonight in this strange city! But hopefully i will find something terribly exciting to do! woooo

Sydney

Helloo,

I am in Sydney now. But i want to be back in Airlie. Everyone says there, if you stay long enough there comes a time you will never leave. So i thought i should leave, just for a bit. Just in case. But i want to go back again. It is SOOOOO much better than being in a big noisy city.
Taking off from Hamilton island, you get a view over all the islands and the reef, and you feel like an idiot for ever thinking about leaving that place.

Sydney is noisy. I am staying in a cool hostel though. And i have met a nice girl called Harriet who also has no idea why she is here. But i am off to New Zealand in 4 days time, so that's a good reason. There is loads i haven't seen here yet though, so i will get on to it tomorrow.

I might go down to the sailing club, and check out the super yachts in Sydney.

I got sunburnt AGAIN today. I swear the sun has it in for me. that hole in the ozone will probably follow me back to England.

I have an Australian number now - if anyone wants to text me. It is: +61428 746 141

Land Ahoy

Helloooo,

I have landed. This is my first day off in 12 days! i am knackered and sunburnt!
The other day was friday the 13th as you all will know - and i managed to smash a mirror on it. Clever me. So, as punishment i was put on a boat called Southern Cross, or the Blue Canoe, as it is know here. It was old, and skanky, and smelly and hot, and gross, and i managed to damage myself in ways you couldn't even imagine. So as you couldn't imagine them, i will write you a list.

1. I sliced 2 of my fingers practically in half clipping on the the head sail.
2. I tripped over every winch and block on the boat, at the last count i had 53 bruises. And they aren't small either. i look like i have been beaten up.
3. I sun burnt my face off.
4. i fell down a hatch.
5. i cut another finger chopping watermelon.
6. A dolphin was chasing a squid, which jumped out of the water onto the boat, narrowly missing slapping me in the face.
7. The BBQ blew up in my face and burnt my fingers, burnt off my arm hair, fringe, eyebrow and some eyelashes.

so, all in all, the trip went pretty well! I met a nice girl called Skye though, but she is leaving here in 2 weeks time. Rubbish.

I'm going to try and get back on Eureka tomorrow.

The weather is good, the sun has been shining everyday - but it is bloody humid! I am going to go and try and get an australian sim card today!

Eureka! I have done it.

I had my last day on Eureka today. I am off on a new boat tomorrow - Southern Cross.
Mum sold my car!!! Its gone :( Sad sad news.
I saw a dolphin, a massive turtle and millions of fish today!
I took all 11 passengers on a trip (by myself!!!) to show them Whitehaven beach - which is AMAZING. Its like 94% silica - and the sand is pure white. it looks brilliant. I've got some photos - but cant work out how to get them on the computer!
I haven't had a day off - i have been on the boat 9 days straight - and now i have another 3 - hopefully i will have a day off soon!

On my day off i will be able to write this properly! Behind me there is a man (who is very drunk) on a web cam talking to his parents - telling them he just got married! haha

i am competent

Herrro,

So, this is what i have been up to for the last week...

I did my first sailing course. and it was AWESOME! I am now a competent crew wooo. special.
So it POURED with rain for the first 3 days. When i say pour i mean POUUUUURRRRR. So i was permanently soaked for 3 days, then the next 3 were so hot i burnt myself to a crisp by accident. nice. There were 2 groups of tourists on our boat as we were learning, A group of Chinese the first 3 days, and then Axl, Jo, Rob and Emma, who were really cool, for the last 3, and we all got on well.

I did my first course with 2 girls, Amy and Kim who were brilliant.

Got myself a job working as crew and a place to live (with my skipper) haha but there are people my age living in the flat, so thats cool.

It is amazing here, the islands are awesome, and i've been snorkeling and swan in a waterfall, and seen manta rays and turtles and fishies. I have been spending alot of time in doors as of late, due to my crispyness. But i will be out again today!

Off for another 3 days now, apparently we will have 10 passengers today! Thats alot.

Got my uniform - i look like a bit of a div in it. I have to wear a cap, which is rubbish - oh and my sunglasses fell in the sea - wish somebody had bought me some sunglasses holder onners as a leaving present! Luckily it wasn't my good ones!

Got to go catch my boat now!

A change of plans!

So, the weather here is so bloody bad. The police are warning floods tomorrow - there is going to be a King Tide - sounds ominous. It is also the day i am off out to sea - i have no idea if it is safer to be at sea or on land in a flood/cyclone/king tide. At least the crocodiles can't eat Bean.

So - i am postponing my working as a crew and the other 2 sailing courses until May! Apparently the weather will be glorious then. Not my words - i have never said glorious in my life, until today. So the new plan!!!!

I am doing my first sailing course tomorrow - which lasts a week - whether i survive a week, who knows!! But i am picturing its going to be like that movie - you know the one i mean, the one at sea - where there is a storm - dead at sea? drowning in storm? storm killer? eaten by shark in storm movie? perfect storm? that one where evryone dies! that maybe what my week will be like! Glorious!!

Anyway, after that i am going to get a bus down to Sydney and do lots of nice sunny things - go to Fraser island and learn to surf and go to a cattle ranch a round up goats on my trusty stead. Goats - not cows.

Then its off to New Zealand for 6 weeks or so - depending on money! wooo

then ill come back up here to sail and scuba dive my last 3 months! yay

ill let you know if ever make it back to dry land.

Airlie Beach

I finally got here! woooo

The 19 hour bus journey was long and boring but i did sleep a bit!
Apparently Cairns have had the worst floods for 30 years! the water is up to the rooftops and there are crocodiles in the streets trying to eat dogs! My bus was supposed to end up in Cairns but the furthest it could physically get was Airlie Beach! How lucky was that! There is a cyclone just off the coast! That should make sailing even more exciting!! I may even wake up in the morning with a great white circling my bunk bed.

It is so humid here! its disgusting. everyone is permanently sweating! I haven't taken a single photo yet! But when i do i will put them up.

Getting to Brisbane

I am in Australia!!! woooo

My flights were long. very long. On the first one i sat between 2 grannies! They were nice to me. I had to help them with the tv all the time. Plus i had to let them know about an hour in advance when i needed the loo, so that they could get up in time.

I spent last night in a hostel in Brisbane. It was hot. i slept a bit which was handy.

Now i am going to find some breakfast before my 19 hour bus ride to Airlie Beach. Which by the way, is in the middle of a flood/record breaking rain/cyclone/storm/most humidity ever recorded. Excellent conditions. Can hardly wait.
